The Shanghai American School (SAS) is an independent, non-profit, coeducational day school that is sponsored by the U.S. Consulate in Shanghai. SAS follows an American curriculum for grades Pre-K through 12. The high school offers Advanced Placement (AP) courses, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program (IB) in eleventh and twelfth grade. Shanghai American School is accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). Maximum class size is 18. Boarding facilities are available for grades 9 - 12.

Located in central Pudong, Concordia offers an American, pre-collegiate, academic program from Preschool through High School. The campus is spacious and green, with athletic fields and bright user friendly buildings. A lot of emphasis is put on IT, and beginning with Grade 7, each student is required to have a laptop computer. Concordia's spiritual perspective is reflected in religious instruction and assembly programs. The school has 270 students, fees are USD 21,650 for kindergarten and USD 22,750 for 12 Grade.

Established in Hongqiao district in 1993, Yew Chung opened its third campus, in the rapidly developing Pudong area, in 2000 school year for kindergarten and primary students (up to grade 5), with boarding facilities for some students whose families are located elsewhere in China. The Puxi schools go up to grade 12, for which tuition is USD 20,000 per year. Over the three campuses, the school has over 1,000 students, from over 30 countries.

This private German school has been open since September 1995. It shares the facilities with the French School Shanghai. It consists of a kindergarten, primary and secondary school up to the 8th grade, and all the schools adhere to German educational standards - the curriculum is based on the Nordrhein-Westfalen curriculum.

Following the Singapore school system, the Singapore Chinese (second) language syllabus is also taught. Fees range from USD 7,000 for kindergarten to USD 12,000 for upper primary (P4-P6). The school is a 3-storey building which includes an indoor gymnasium, computer labs, a science lab, and drama room. There is also an outdoor playing field and mini basket ball courts.
